My work unfolds through painting as a way to understand the experience of being alive and surrounded by life. The practice extends beyond the studio and the canvas, becoming a site for transformation, reflection, and attentive presence. Thus I approach painting as a mystical being capable of whispering, breathing and imbuing objects with life.
The works have settled ground in fique, a fiber cultivated, dried, spun, and woven in the Colombian Andes, the place where my roots are sown. Traditionally used to transport grains and harvests, its open and heavy weave allows for painting to manifest herself rebelliously as she touches the ground. I see it as a material in constant transit, mirroring my own dislocation from what was once home. Working with it pushes the painting beyond the image into physicality: a hybrid object, a patchwork of painted fragments sewn together, existing between painting and tapestry.
On these surfaces, fragments of lived experience converge into an amalgam of meanings, symbols, daydreams, and recollections. I long for a tactile and silent language to glimpse the hidden secrets that weave within the experience of being alive and surrounded by life.
